In the past, this treatment required external stabilizers that were difficult to accept. Today, in many cases, external stabilizers are being replaced by bone lengthening nails, hidden inside the bone.
Last month, such an innovative operation was performed at Rehasport Hospital by Bartosz Musielak, MD, performing a lower limb lengthening procedure with distraction osteotomy and PRECICE magnetic nail implantation. The lower limb lengthening procedure consisted of placing a NuVasive PRECICE growing magnetic nail inside the marrow canal of the bone with a minimally invasive, percutaneous bone cut. This unique telescopic rod is equipped with a special mechanism activated by an external controller responsible for its gradual elongation.
After the procedure, the patient remains in the hospital for 2 days, and after 5-10 days begins lengthening the limb. During lengthening, our patient requires intensive rehabilitation and vigilant observation by the doctor at regular follow-up visits every 2 weeks. Soon after the elongation is completed, the plan is to wean off the crutches and return to normal function.

The procedure was performed by Bartosz Musielak, M.D. - a specialist in orthopedics and traumatology of the musculoskeletal system, who specializes in reconstructive surgery, limb lengthening, and correction of limb deformities.
