Upper limb surgery

Hand surgery is concerned with surgical and non-surgical treatment of the entire upper limb damage. The field of interest ranges from fingers to shoulder area. It must be performed by persons who have been properly trained under their specialization and throughout specialist internships and courses.
Typical hand surgery diseases and damage:

With regard to hand:
  • Nerves and tendons damage,
  • Radial bone, finger bone and wrist bone fractures,
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome.
With regard to elbow:
  • fractures,
  • tennis elbow,
  • golfer’s elbow,
  • contractures and post-traumatic deformations,
  • degenerative changes
With regard to shoulder:
  • pain syndromes,
  • rotator cuff damage,
  • instability,
  • frozen shoulder syndrome,
  • degenerative changes,
  • fractures,
  • post-traumatic deformations,
  • brachial plexus damage.

In the last couple of years the upper limb surgery has been enriched with a number of modern surgical techniques, the so-called little-invasive procedures. These are shoulder arthroscopy, elbow and wrist arthroscopy and endoscopic nerve decompression techniques. Thanks to them, it is possible to reconstruct damaged tissues without a need to open joints.
Another technique which helps us improve functions in advanced degeneracy is endoprosthetics (that is joint replacement). In the upper limb it may apply to shoulder, elbow, wrist and finger joints.
