Rehabilitation

What we treat

The purpose of exercise is determined by the patient, and therapists of the Rehasport Team constantly change and adjust our way of treatment.

Due to a highly professional approach towards the rehabilitation of our patients, they are able to learn to function once more (repeating without repeating – this is one of the objectives of the PNF method, which we use while working with the patients).

expandcollapseOrthopedic rehabilitation

Patients come to our clinic with various orthopedic injuries. Muscle-ligament injuries and overload are often sport injuries. All patients receive comprehensive care – those after surgery and those who come for conservative treatment .

In rehabilitation we always aim to regain our patients’ full mobility and return to sport. This goal is achieved thanks to the excellent cooperation between the doctor, diagnostician, and physiotherapist throughout the rehabilitation process .

An important aspect of orthopedic rehabilitation apart from manual work with a qualified physiotherapist, is rehabilitation training by use of modern equipment and orthopedic devices. In the process of rehabilitation we conduct objective tests on specialized machines, which allow us to evaluate the progress of patients and monitor the degree of improvement. Tests allow us to shorten the treatment time to a minimum.

Preparing for surgery – is an important step in treatment. Strengthening the weakened muscles, restoring the range of motion and improving the overall efficiency of a patient lead to easier post-operative treatment.

Postoperative rehabilitation – is an essential part of treatment . A properly performed operation is only half the success. Postoperative rehabilitation begins the day after surgery and continues until full recovery.

Conservative Rehabilitation – is used in overload injuries and muscle- ligament injuries which do not require surgical treatment . The purpose of such rehabilitation is firstly pain reduction, and then restoring fitness and strengthening muscles. The last stage of rehabilitation focuses on the prevention of injuries in the future through specialized functional exercises and proprioception.

Time is precious in neurological rehabilitation. It is important when rehabilitation begins, how it is integrated into the patient’s plan of the day and whether it is carried out continuously. Keep in mind that the quality of the results of rehabilitation are very much influenced by a sustainable level of intensity, carried out daily, even twice a day. Our patients are people who have had car accidents, sports injuries or other random accidents leading to acute coronary vasculature within the brain (e.g., hemorrhagic or ischemic stroke), cranial cerebral injury and/or spinal cord injury . Another group of our patients are people with cerebral palsy (CP), who have been subjected to corrective movement treatment (eg, corrective osteotomy), as well as patients suffering from chronic diseases of the nervous system, i.e., multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease, and many others.

expandcollapseThe Rehabilitation of children

We comprehensively treat children, both in terms of disorders resulting from bad posture, as well as traffic accidents or birth defects. Thanks to the cooperation of skilled doctors, physiotherapists and diagnosis, the child is under the total care. We assess both large and small motor skills , which in later life is important for a child’s development both physically and school. Our therapists work mainly methods of NDT Bobath and PNF.

Bad posture and scoliosis therapy requires individually selected therapy, keeping in mind the aim to be achieved in terms of posture correction as also the degree of curvature and bone age of the child.

Idiopathic scoliosis
Idiopathic scoliosis (IS) is a deformity of the spine that occurs in three levels, with no full etiology (cause). For lordosis to be considered scoliosis, according to Cobb, the angle of deviation of the spine on an x-ray must be at least 10°. The amount of scoliosis with slight deviation is equal among girls and boys, however larger angles of deviation are more common among girls.

Currently, scoliosis is divided into three groups according to its angle (Cobb):

  • I. 10° -24°
  • II. 25-40°
  • III. 50° and above

Causes
The etiology of the disease is not fully clear. Most often idiopathic scoliosis is proven with rapid growth of the spine.

How to diagnose?
The first observable symptom is waist asymmetry, uneven shoulder height or tilt of the torso to the side of the pelvis. Specialized diagnostics involve, among others, a clinical study measuring the angle of rotation in a bend position, using a scoliometer, and the evaluation of deformation on an X-ray of the spine.

How to treat?
In the case of scoliosis, we may talk about subjecting the patient to therapy. Depending on the angle of deviation and possible progression of the deformity, it is recommended to perform the first degree, in scoliosis of the first degree it is recommended to perform regular daily exercises.

Scoliosis of the second degree requires daily specialized exercises, as also wearing a corrective corset. Scoliosis of the third degree requires the consideration of spinal stabilization surgery.

expandcollapseBack Pain Treatment

Research shows that about 90% of people experience periodic spinal pain throughout their lives. The reason is commonly associated with a sitting lifestyle but also an increasingly popular physical activity lifestyle, which is not always conducive to the spine. In our clinic we treat all kinds of back pain in both acute state and chronic demanding. In the fight against pain, we use our therapeutic knowledge based on scientific evidence and own experience. Much emphasis is always placed on educating the patient and helping in the prevention of pain recurrence.
